Eleven Comal ISD student musicians were selected for All-State Band honors after advancing from region and area competitions during a rigorous audition process that begins with more than 70,000 participants.

The dream of playing the sport they love at the next level came true for 45 student athletes on February 7. National Signing Day ceremonies took place at each of Comal ISD's traditional high school campuses with lots of smiles, hugs and a few tears.

This year's Comal ISD winner of the KENS 5 EXCEL Award is Traci Collie, a math teacher from Spring Branch Middle School. She was surprised by the announcement during a campus assembly arranged just for her complete with a red carpet, cheerleaders and the Wranglers band.

The Comal Education Foundation hosted an appreciation event on January 26 and recognized teachers, campuses and community supporters. It was also a great opportunity to showcase the Foundation's success.

A proposed experiment from an engineering class of eight students at Hill Country College Preparatory High School was among only 60 in the nation and two in Texas to be chosen for a $1,500 grant by this year's NASA TechRise Student challenge. The work to turn their idea into a reality begins now.

More than 110 pieces of art representing 11 campuses were featured during the district's second art show of the school year. Art teachers selected the students' work which is on display in the Support Services building.

Two Comal ISD elementary campuses out of 582 public elementary schools are in the top five in the San Antonio area with Hoffmann Lane in the top spot according to the Children at Risk school rankings for the 2022-2023 year. In addition, Memorial Early College High School is ranked as the the second best high school in the area.

To honor the seven trustees who make up the Comal ISD Board of Trustees, the boardroom was decorated with messages from students across the district as a way to say, ‘thank you.' January is School Board Appreciation Month.

The Smithson Valley Rangers football team was recognized for its second-place finish in this year's State 5A Division 1 conference with a 14-2 record, and Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach Larry Hill was honored for earning his 300th Career Win during the season.

The Comal ISD fine arts department was awarded the Texas Thespians Premier Communities for Theatre Education 2023-2024 Award for the second year in a row.
