Welcome to fourth grade!

I'm Mrs. McWilliams, a fourth grade RLA and Social Studies teacher here at GFES! Please feel free to email me or send me a message on parent square if you have any questions. I'm excited for a fabulous year together!
About me

I was born and raised in San Antonio, but moved to New Braunfels in 2018 with my Husband Steven, and our 2 dogs: Archie and Bojack. Classroom information

School day
The school day begins at 7:45am and is dismissed at 3:00pm. Your child is expected to be in their seat, ready to learn no later than 7:45am, or they will be considered tardy (aside from buses arriving late or inclement weather). Students who eat breakfast in the morning will head straight to the cafeteria as soon as they arrive.

Binder expectations
In order to build and foster strong organizational skills, we will be organizing information in a Binder. Each binder will have tabs that organizer different aspects of our learning, as well as an agenda that students are expected to write in each morning, with important things going on in our classroom and on our campus. Please check the binders daily to help bridge this important skill from school to home.

Homework and grading guidelines
At the beginning of the school year we will not assign homework each night, but highly encourage nightly reading. If for some reason an assignment or form is sent home that needs to be returned to school, I will send an announcement through PARENT SQUARE.

Any student can earn the opportunity to retest one assessment falling in the Tests Category one time per grading period for each content. The reassessment must occur within the same nine-week grading period except in the case of an end-of-grading period assessment (such as nine week exams), in which case the reassessment should occur no later than one week after the grading period ends. Students earn the opportunity for reassessment by working with the teacher to prove that new learning has taken place and that they have a better understanding of the assessed content. A parent, teacher, or student may initiate the reassessment process. Students shall receive no higher than a 75 on any reassessment.

For grades falling in the Daily Classwork category, students may redo/rework one assignment per grading period, per subject. This guideline applies only to daily grades that received less than a 70, including quizzes, classwork, and daily work. The higher grade of the two assignments shall be recorded, not to exceed a 70. The teacher will decide whether the same assignment or an alternate assignment will be given. A parent, teacher, or student may initiate the redo/rework process.
