The History of Goodwin Frazier Elementary

Old Goodwin Elementary School House

Frazier Elementary was established in 1974 and was named after Elan Brittain Frazier.  Mrs. Frazier began her career in a one room rock schoolhouse in Comal County with only two other teachers. After spending forty-four years of  teaching, she was rewarded with a new modern school being named after her. Frazier Elementary was built to be a pilot school for many new educational concepts. Teaching was done in a big open area with individual attention for students.  Mrs. Frazier said she was "humbled, grateful and felt very unworthy” when she found out the school would be named after her. After her retirement, Comal ISD  continues to remember her contributions as a teacher.

In 2007, Goodwin Primary Elementary closed its doors and joined Frazier Elementary.  Goodwin Frazier Elementary was renovated the summer of 2007, with work continuing until just days before the school started in August.  The staff helped the contractors get the building ready for students. Dr. Lyndon Langford, GFES Principal at the time said “The Goodwin Frazier Leadership Team lives by the saying 'the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible will take just a little longer.'”

Today Goodwin Frazier Elementary serves over 690 students in Early Childhood and grades Pre K through 5th grade with over 100 staff members..  Our motto today is “GFES, Where You Belong”  because everyone has a place at Goodwin Frazier!
